LavaBox Campfire Kitchen: Our Full Cooking and Campfire Combo

Bomb products. Not explosive. Just bomb. (although, please be safe with open flame and stuff)

I’ve been wanting, burning even, to get this for a while. Did my research with other companies but I was just really impressed with LavaBox. It helps that when you visit at places like Freespirit Recreation or Overland Expo that there might be Shotski’s involved. I can be bribed or convinced.

I went with the camp kitchen combo because it had everything I needed. They were out of stock on the OUGT’s but shipped them as quickly as possible. The Shwok is fire. Seriously. Fun to cook with and easy to clean. The rest of the accessories are a must have.

I did have one issue at our recent campsite. Someone, not me, promise, placed the Hekla lid off to the side of the grill that we were using as a base and the lid somehow fell into the fire pit. After a raging bonfire the night before, we looked all over for the lid. Couldn’t find it. I took one last look at the fire pit to make sure the coals were good and dead from the night before and I found the lid braced at the side wall of the pit. The brass caps and screws for the leather strap were there but the leather strap was a distant memory. There’s a fine patina of flame kissed steel and the lid fit snugly to the box. I asked LavaBox about getting a new strap and they sent me a new lid.

I’ll be a big fan of LavaBox from here on. Getcha some. Light up. Enjoy. Repeat. Fire safely.

I tried my new Lavabox last week for the first time. It worked great to fry my steak for dinner and my sausage, eggs and hash browns the next morning. Since it was cool when I finished cooking the steak I simply switched the propane hose to the campfire fitting and started up a fire to keep me warm while I ate. I am so pleased with it!!

Although I haven’t been able to use it yet, I’m completely happy with the quality of the unit and all the components. The only issue might be how easy it is to clean the bottom of box after cooking steaks or other fatty foods on the grill. I can easily deal with that small possible inconvenience. Good Job! Looking forward to firing it up!

Picked up the lava box/cooking combo to have fire on our recent rafting trip and to supplement the stove a friend was bringing. Well the friend forgot propane and the adapter wouldn’t work with the stove so it was up to lava box to take care of everything. The wok is huge and handled most of the cooking. Having a cast iron pan on hand to cook then keep things warm on was a nice workaround to only having one burner unlike most dedicated stoves that have two. Lava box came in clutch warming us up after a rain storm rolled through just as we got to camp and the sun was going down. Overall it’s a great combo that can take care of all your cooking and warmth needs!
