We love using our Lava Box. It’s easy to use, super compact and just tucks away for travel. Puts off enough heat for the group to stay warm.

As an RVer I am always for looking for ways to save space and weight while maintaining or improving efficiency and embracing technology. Every camper loves a campfire whether it’s from a fire ring using natural materials or a portable fire pit using propane, but until now the later can be bulky, heavy and takes up some very valuable space that could be used for other things.

For eight decades, the 50 Cal. ammo box has been the most widely used waterproof box for whitewater rafting. It was widely available and affordable--dare I say cheap. But in the last few years, they've been increasingly difficult to find, and as with any other shortage, the price goes up. A new gasket in an old ammo box is as good as a new ammo box.
The box I repaired has passed a submersion test, and I will take it on my next river trip with confidence. The only caveat I would add for potential buyers is that I found the installation process pretty difficult and time-consuming. After much trial and failure, I finally used a spray can of dry silicone lube on the gasket, and that allowed me to get it properly seated on the lid. Unfortunately, I'm not sure you can buy dry silicone spray anymore. I don't know if it has been banned, but it is gone from the shelves in the stores I visited in search of a new can.
If I had to install one today, I think I'd use a very light application of silicone grease. My concern about that is that it would tend to collect and keep sand, so I would use it very sparingly. After installation, I would thoroughly clean the gasket with soap and water to remove as much of the grease as possible.
One thing I don't know is whether or not the rubber used in the gasket would be harmed by petroleum-based lubricant, as most natural rubber compounds are. If the gasket is a synthetic rubber, then maybe WD--40 would be okay. A tag on the gasket stating lubricant compatibility would be helpful.

I have been using a propane fireplace for a few years and it’s the big round bulky one. This one puts out the same flame plus more it does use a bit more propane, but it’s worth it. It’s still last about three days for me on a 7 to 10 gallon tank depending on which one I bring neither of them still have run out and I also cook with it when I first got it. The flame was tiny. The regulator was broken. I emailed them and they sent me another one right away they even expedited it because it got there in like two days. very impressed very happy might buy another one just for storage.

Super easy to setup. when you turn the regulator up for a bigger flame you can hear the gas flow. Not sure how long a 10lbs tank will last but overall amazing product and the bag it comes with is perfect.

This is a great fire, particularly with all of the fire bans in California. Well made, and I loved the packaging. Would highly recommend as a fire - I haven’t cooked on it yet

This is an awesome bag, perfect for the lava box and other stuff you need, has so much room for other gadgets and really nice individual pockets, had a problem with one of the mesh zipper, I emailed them and voila no questions asked they sent me a new one! These guys are serious on customer satisfaction

I purchased two lava boxes (yes, they are that amazing) I received one, but not the other. I contacted Lava Box and had the issue resolved in minutes. Awesome company, awesome product.

Small dent in the side, but that is what I expected buying a scratch and dent item. Certainly no worse than what I will do to the item.

Lava Box: Well, be a great source to cook on as well as heat to the grandchildren and we’ll use it each time we go fishing and camping. I like the way that it can fit into the bag that comes with it.SO that it's all safe and nothing is left behind.

Great compact design. Will work well when remote camping and not able to have a traditional fire. Bought some aftermarket rocks that retain more heat to add a little more ambient heat to the gas fire. The only thing that could be improved is adding a quick disconnect for the gas line. Make sure you buy a 30lb for this one 20 lb wont last long.
