My family has enjoyed this fire pit so much. It’s become one of our favorite ways to relax together outdoors. One of the biggest benefits for me personally is how clean it burns. Unlike regular wood campfires, it produces far less smoke, which has actually helped my sinuses a lot. I can finally enjoy a fire without dealing with congestion or irritation afterward.

The Hekla all s/s lavabox is a great example of fine American made craftsmanship. Sure it costs more because you are getting more. This unit will probably outlast me and it’s a pleasure to use each and every time. A great example of why America is number one every time we put our heart and soul into what we do.

I'm a long-time lavabox user that recently upgraded to the dual-burner model and a skwok. I was never that impressed when I tried cooking on my old Lavabox (the single burner model). It always produced way too much soot, and the heat was never quite right. The dual burner model has vastly improved that, and I'm now a huge fan of the dual burner models and the skwok.

The skwok put a crust on a steak that's better than what I can get at home with my expensive carbon and stainless steel pans. The temperature control on the dual burner lavabox is surprisingly good, although it's a little challenging to cook at very low temperatures since you can't see the burner when the skwok is in place. The handles stay cool, and the build quality on the skwok is top notch. The best part is that you can cook in the center of the skwok while you keep food warm around the edges. That way everything comes out warm at the same time.

I tried the recommended cleaning and pre-seasoning technique with potatoes and salt. It didn't work well for me since I do not have a gas stove. Instead, I put the skwok in a 400 degree oven for about half an hour, carefully wiped it down, and then thoroughly washed it with soap and water once it cooled down. I then put it back in the oven for about 20 minutes, wiped it down with a thin layer of grape seed oil, and put it back in the oven for about 30 minutes. I repeated this process one more time, turned off the oven, and let the pan cool down inside the oven. This seemed to remove all the wax and leave a nice starter patina. I expect the patina will continue to get better and better the more I use it.

To clean, I pour some water in a cool skwok and boil it over the lavabox. I then carefully scrape any stuck-on bits off the surface, pour off the water, and wipe out the skwok with a paper towel -- no soap! This keeps it clean and maintains the patina to protect the pan. Be prepared for a little soot on the bottom of the skwok after you use it. The gloves that come with the kit are really handy because they keep your hands clean as well as protecting from the heat.

All in all, super happy with this purchase.

The original regulator with the red dial on top was too flimsy. It broke, leaving the dial to just spin without turning on the gas. This new regulator with a solid metal separate valve is so much better. Just a heads up that it makes a little more noise than the first one, but I like that. I know right away that the gas is flowing.

I did not know what to expect when I received the box. It went from wow! To totally amazed at the quality of the fireplace. You can see the quality and care building them. It's easy to set up or put away, saves a lot of space because of the design. Works great, easily adjustable flame, and looks so good. The only minor improvement would be to use better zippers on the bag, but otherwise, we love it.

We have a camper, and the lavabox is a perfect addition when there's a fire ban. Used it last night, it is well made and throws a lot of heat. Great value compared to others which don't include a bag and other addons

I purchased my Hekla just before Thanksgiving and have had nothing but positive experiences with the folks at Lavabox; purchase was very easy and was shipped quickly. The combo arrived the day before Thanksgiving, and I was excited to try it that night, the system is very easy to set up, but I was disappointed at the height of the flame as it seemed very low compared to photos and reviews I had seen.

I sent a note to the team at Lavabox that night expecting I would hear back sometime the following week, but my experience truly surprised me. I received an email from Syotr on their staff Thanksgiving morning, as well as confirmation that a new regulator had been shipped to help fix the fire height issue. This team goes the extra mile to ensure that people love their purchases and it really shows. Moreover, the range and heat that the Hekla puts off for such a small piece of equipment is incredible. My wife and I use the firepit regularly and she has now freely admitted that, “it is the single best piece of camping equipment,” that I have ever purchased. Safe to say, there is no higher praise than that.

I’ve been using the Lavabox portable camp fire for a while now, and it has easily become one of my favorite pieces of outdoor gear. Bought a Hekla a couple of years ago. It's been great in the summer when there is always a burn ban and in winter when you really want to crank up the flame for heat (more-so than that other Scandinavian sounding but Chinese made fire pit). On my last trip the red plastic regulator dial broke. The folks at Lavabox have since moved on to a new hose design with a proper brass valve and sent me this new one. They really stand behind their product. Thanks guys!
