Its dual function. Acts as a stand or a cooking grate. Only complaint/concern is have at all with or about it. Is theres no way to secure it to the box especially for the stand part.

I have been camping and enjoying wood campfires for over 50 years. Several years ago, I retired and downsized my program. Space and convenience had become a priority so I researched portable campfire systems. After looking at several "firecan" options and watching some of Josh's videos, I decided to go with the LavaBox Heckla combo package for several reasons. I believe in American made craftsmanship, American ingenuity, and hard working people that provide a quality product at a fair price. Also, I come from an industrial maintenance background and love stainless steel for its looks and durability. I expect this piece of gear to be handed down through the generations. But probably the thing I love most about it is it's capability of producing 280,000 BTU,s when needed!
I introduced the Heckla Lavabox last week with several of my retiree overlanding buddies and they were so impressed that one of them ordered the Heckla Lavabox combo package when he got home.
One last note: Josh covers this in his videos. We can all agree, there is nothing like a real wood campfire but we've all been there where its simply not convenient to start up, maintain, and extinguish a wood fire and therefore, the Heckla Lavabox is an absolute must have addition to anyone's overland gear toolbox

I can't speak highly enough of the customer service!! There were a couple parts on back order but the company communicated and was very responsive of any questions I had!!!! Definitely would order again and can't wait to use camping!

This bag was designed to be useful for more than just carrying the LavaBox and accessories. There are so many additional features (dividers, velcro Molle board, extra pockets, shoulder strap, zippered mesh pockets inside, etc.). Well done.

I’ve had my OG lava box for two years. Love it except for the carbon build up when I cook with my cast iron skillet. No more carbon with the retrofit. Great turnaround work. Can’t wait to FIRE 🔥 it up

My family has enjoyed this fire pit so much. It’s become one of our favorite ways to relax together outdoors. One of the biggest benefits for me personally is how clean it burns. Unlike regular wood campfires, it produces far less smoke, which has actually helped my sinuses a lot. I can finally enjoy a fire without dealing with congestion or irritation afterward.

The Hekla all s/s lavabox is a great example of fine American made craftsmanship. Sure it costs more because you are getting more. This unit will probably outlast me and it’s a pleasure to use each and every time. A great example of why America is number one every time we put our heart and soul into what we do.

I'm a long-time lavabox user that recently upgraded to the dual-burner model and a skwok. I was never that impressed when I tried cooking on my old Lavabox (the single burner model). It always produced way too much soot, and the heat was never quite right. The dual burner model has vastly improved that, and I'm now a huge fan of the dual burner models and the skwok.

The skwok put a crust on a steak that's better than what I can get at home with my expensive carbon and stainless steel pans. The temperature control on the dual burner lavabox is surprisingly good, although it's a little challenging to cook at very low temperatures since you can't see the burner when the skwok is in place. The handles stay cool, and the build quality on the skwok is top notch. The best part is that you can cook in the center of the skwok while you keep food warm around the edges. That way everything comes out warm at the same time.

I tried the recommended cleaning and pre-seasoning technique with potatoes and salt. It didn't work well for me since I do not have a gas stove. Instead, I put the skwok in a 400 degree oven for about half an hour, carefully wiped it down, and then thoroughly washed it with soap and water once it cooled down. I then put it back in the oven for about 20 minutes, wiped it down with a thin layer of grape seed oil, and put it back in the oven for about 30 minutes. I repeated this process one more time, turned off the oven, and let the pan cool down inside the oven. This seemed to remove all the wax and leave a nice starter patina. I expect the patina will continue to get better and better the more I use it.

To clean, I pour some water in a cool skwok and boil it over the lavabox. I then carefully scrape any stuck-on bits off the surface, pour off the water, and wipe out the skwok with a paper towel -- no soap! This keeps it clean and maintains the patina to protect the pan. Be prepared for a little soot on the bottom of the skwok after you use it. The gloves that come with the kit are really handy because they keep your hands clean as well as protecting from the heat.

All in all, super happy with this purchase.

The original regulator with the red dial on top was too flimsy. It broke, leaving the dial to just spin without turning on the gas. This new regulator with a solid metal separate valve is so much better. Just a heads up that it makes a little more noise than the first one, but I like that. I know right away that the gas is flowing.
